Update: Cannabis Cup Not coming To Pueblo

High Times Magazine has released a statement on its decision to stop pursuing a permit to hold the Cannabis Cup competition and festival in Pueblo County

“As you know, there has been a great deal of uncertainty about the annual HIGH TIMES Cannabis Cup in Colorado. In the past two weeks, we have attempted to secure a permit for the Cannabis Cup in Pueblo, which would have enabled HIGH TIMES to host the event there in April. However, over this past weekend, we have decided to suspend our pursuit of a permit.

As HIGH TIMES proceeds through the permit approval process, our foremost commitment is always to create the highest quality and safest event possible for our attendees, our partners and the cannabis industry.

We appreciate the efforts of the local community to expedite the process and we respect the need for all parties involved to have confidence in all operational aspects of the event.

We remain committed to supporting the historic Colorado cannabis industry and look forward to hosting a future HIGH TIMES event in Colorado.”

Promoter Tommy Giodone, who has been working with High Times to bring the event to Pueblo, says he understands the decision.”

He tells NewsChannel 13’s Katie Spencer that the process was moving slowly, and it takes a long time to put together an event with such large logistics.

The magazine informed Giodone of its decision Saturday, saying that with the clock ticking, there were concerns about the ability to organize and promote a quality event.

None of Pueblo’s County Commissioners were available for comment Sunday.

Local law enforcement agencies and the State Patrol had expressed misgivings about hosting such a large marijuana themed event.

Organizers had been planning to hold the event on the St. Charles Mesa, at “The Yard”.

The large open space lot, which is owned by the Giodone family, has been the previous host of “Bands in the Backyard, an annual country music and food festival.
