Time too tight for Cannabis Cup

The marijuana trade show that could have brought thousand of people to Southern Colorado has changed its mind.

High Times has pulled its permit to have the Cannabis Cup in Pueblo.

In a statement High Times said, “as high times proceeds through the permit approval process, our foremost commitment is always to create the highest quality and safest event possible for our attendees, our partners and the cannabis industry.”

Dan Corsentino was acting as a consultant for High Times for event security, he said everything was set on their end.

“It was going to be an effort of two security firms working together to keep the internal part safe and secure,” said Corsentino.

The Pueblo County Sheriff and Colorado State Patrol were both against having the Cannabis Cub in Pueblo. Corsentino says that may have played a role in the decision.

“I think that high times was concerned about their welcome into Pueblo County at that point in time,” said Corsentino.

With the Cannabis Cup officially out of the question, the dispensary, The Spot’s manager says he still thinks they’ll have a successful April.

“The 4-20 timing is huge for us anyway so we’ll see a lot of traffic,” said Dave Munn with The Spot.

Munn said the presence of the Cannabis Cup may helped Pueblo economically, but there also could have been some aspects that put the community in a bad light.

“The outcome of it could have also cast a shadow on the industry as well as promote the industry so it’s tough to say,” said Munn.

The Cannabis Cup was going to be at The Yard which is owned by Tommy Giodone. We spoke with him about the permit being pulled and he says he respects the decision and understands they were running out of time to promote the event.
