Democrats debate in Flint, talk water crisis, mass shootings, Black Lives Matter, Trump

Two days before Michigan primary voters go to the polls in Decision 2016, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders met on the debate stage in Flint.

The two Democratic candidates talked about a number of issues, including the Flint water crisis and the epidemic of mass shootings in our country.

Both presidential contenders answered a question from the father of a 14-year-old girl who was shot in the head, severely injured in a mass shooting in Kalamazoo, MI two weeks ago.

“Any person can walk into a theater and do something horrific and for us to tell you that absolutely will not happen would be untrue,” Sen. Sanders said.

“You talk about corporate greed, the gun manufacturers sale guns to make as much money as they can make,” Secretary Clinton said.

On the water crisis devastating Flint where high levels of lead were found in tap water, both candidates advocated for Gov. Rick Snyder to resign.

“Everyone of us should just run through our minds how we use water every single day to understand the pressure and real pain families are going through,” Clinton said.

“How did we have so much money available to go to war in Iraq and spend trillions of dollars, but somehow not have enough money, not just for Flint, but for communities around the country,” Sanders said.

Clinton has the momentum and is comfortably ahead in the delegate race, but supporters in Colorado Springs of both campaigns say debates still matter and can make a big difference in this primary battle.

“It’s educating people,” Deanna Ross, an active Democrat said. “We still have a lot of voting to be done, a lot of delegates who are uncommitted.”

Both Clinton and Sanders say they relish the possibility of going against Donald Trump in a general election.

“I would love to run against Trump,” Sanders said. “Sanders vs. Trump does better than Clinton vs. Trump.”

“Donald trump has so far 3.6 million votes and there is one candidate in either party who has more votes and that’s me,” Clinton said.
