Southern Colorado fans react to Peyton Manning’s retirement
Since news broke of Peyton Manning’s retirement, fans have been outspoken sharing their thoughts about the move.
“I lived here all my life and I just think it’s great that Peyton is retiring when he’s on top,” said Byron Wichman.
Wichman considers himself a die-hard fan, even his car is decorated orange. When he heard his favorite quarterback is retiring, he said it didn’t surprise him.
“Not at all. I think he’s done enough with his all-time passing records, so I think he’s doing good for himself,” said Wichman.
Others say they saw it coming after Manning took home his second Lombardi trophy.
“He knew, I think, at the end of the Superbowl and he kind of let it out of the bag. I think we all knew, just making it official is now the icing on the cake,” said Rick Velliquette.
But are fans ready to see a different quarterback on the field?
“I think that’s a good thing, actually, because we can’t rely on the guys that were veterans. We’ve got to let them continue on and go live their lives because they’ve been playing football for all these years,” said Michael Matt.
After Manning’s 18-year career, fans say they’re proud to call him a Denver Bronco.
“We’re proud to have him on the team and even though he’ll be gone, he’s going to be appreciated,” said Stephen Breckens.
“He’s done great for our team and I wish him all the luck in his retirement,” said Wichman.
Manning will make the official announcement Monday at a press conference.
