San Isabel Electric warning of phone scam targeting customers

San Isabel Electric in Pueblo is warning customers of a phone scam.

According to the company, the call comes in from a 1-800 number, 1-800-478-2610.

The scammer states a large amount of money needs to be paid or the power will be turned off. The call also says the customer’s payment is 90 days overdue.

San Isabel spokeswoman Chelsie West has issued the following statement: “This is a scam we have seen before and notified our members of. It’s parodic in nature and consistent with phishing scammers.

San Isabel never disconnects or demands payment in the fashion these scammers do. We are member owned and don’t threaten our members in this fashion.

A very small percentage of members fall into a past due category, but those targeted are usually members in good standing so they are concerned about maintaining their great credit status.

This scam is similar to the IRS scam. They try to rattle honest people into a bad decision.”
