1 dead, 3 hospitalized after serious accident
The Colorado Springs Police Department’s major accidents unit is investigating a deadly, chain reaction crash that closed both the northbound and southbound lanes of South Academy Boulevard near the Milton Proby Expressway.
Police say the accident happened around 9:45 p.m. Friday. One person was found dead at the scene. Three others were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. They are expected to recover.
Investigators say the accident began when a driver lost control in the southbound lanes of South Academy, drove over the median into the northbound lanes and collided with another vehicle.
Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
The victims have not been identified.
Southbound Academy is currently closed at Jet Wing Drive. Northbound Academy is closed at Bradley Road. Both sections will reopen once the investigation is complete.
