Pueblo County grass fire 85% contained

The Huerfano River Fire in Pueblo County was 85% contained Thursday afternoon.

The fire has burned 300 acres south of Avondale.

Authorities say a downed power line started the fire, which was reported at around 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Huerfano River bed area near Broadacre and Doyle roads.

A few buildings were threatened when the fire started, but now those buildings are not in danger.

Firefighters monitored the fire for hot spots overnight. A hand-crew from Juniper Valley arrived early Thursday morning to help clear brush and debris from the area.
