CSU is doing research with Scott Kelly

Now that Scott Kelly is home, part of him is going to research, and part of that research is happening in Colorado.

Colorado State University is one of 10 universities taking part in a study involving Kelly and his twin brother Mark.

CSU professor Susan Bailey will get four samples of his blood.

The goal of the research is to determine things like the aging process and the effects of radiation on the body during spaceflight.

Travis Schenck of the Space Foundation said, “This is the first time we’ve used a twin brother – he has a twin back here on Earth – also an astronaut. And they’ve both been eating the same type of food, going through the same type of regime so that we can get a really good scientific background.”

CSU already has some of the Kelly twins’ blood.

The research also involves seeing how Scott Kelly has changed during the flight.
