Reports: Peyton Manning to retire

The Denver Post is reporting that Denver Broncos Quarterback Peyton Manning has decided to retire following his 18th year in the NFL.

In an article written by Woody Paige, the Post reports that Manning, who will turn 40 in March, will announce his decision to retire sometime this coming week.

The Denver Broncos aren’t confirming the report, and in a Tweet by VP of Public Relations Patrick Smyth said “Peyton has not made a decision on his future. Plan remains for him to continue talks with the team this week.”

Paige, who has written for the Post since 1981, says in the column that “it’s implausible that Manning would opt to sign with another team for one season.” He also says the Manning met with John Elway at Elway’s home at some point last week, and that meeting played some role in confirming Manning’s decision to retire.

Manning led the Broncos to four consecutive AFC West titles and two Super Bowls, including the victory in Super Bowl 50 over Carolina.
