New business makes boardsports easier to learn
Skiing is a popular hobby in Colorado but it can be a hit to the pocketbook, especially when people are just learning.
Skimaxx is an indoor ski slope in Colorado Springs with a conveyor belt design that makes for an endless ride. It’s also a lot softer and warmer than being in real snow.
Susie Cole, owner of SkiMaxx, says that one of the best parts is not having to travel or freeze while learning the ropes.
“We can ski in shorts. It’s fun!,” she said.
Grace and Gavin Hunter are two Colorado Springs kids who are learning to ski at Skimaxx. They were pretty happy with their results.
“I didn’t fall down,” Grace Hunter said.
Her brother added, “I only fell down once, the last time.”
Indoor ski slopes are not a new concept. They’ve been around since the 80’s. But, with lift tickets in Colorado now costing around $100 a day in some resorts, the timing is good.
