Tips sought in shooting death of Elbert County man

The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office says a man was shot to death at a rural property east of Agate.

The sheriff’s office says that at 5 p.m. on January 23, Edward Butler called a co-owner of the property to ask if anyone was given permission to be there. He said it appeared someone had been inside a home and the outbuildings on the property. The call then dropped out.

The co-owner of the property called a neighbor to go check on Butler. The neighbor found Butler shot to death.

The sheriff’s office is looking for the man pictured at the top of this article in connection to Butler’s death. He wears a diamond earring in his left ear, a band style ring on his left ring finger, a large watch on his left wrist and possibly a bracelet. He is considered a person of interest and was last seen in the Agate area on January 23.
