Human traffic victims recovering

Since September, El Pueblo has seen 12 girls in their human trafficking program.

El pueblo treatment center showcased their facilities to the state’s new human trafficking council Tuesday.

There are three girls at El Pueblo right now who are being rehabilitated after the trauma of being trafficked.

The goal is to create structure and a safe environment.

“So people out there know it exists, but there’s a reluctance a to understand that it actually exists in their own community. The truth is, it happens everywhere so it is happening in your own backyard,” said Maria Trujillo, a human trafficking program manager with the state of Colorado.

El Pueblo has had a variety of success with the girls, some stay just hours, others stay months.
