Cannabis Cup brings mixed reviews
If the Cannabis Cup comes to Pueblo, it would mean 35,000 people in the area and a chance to make money.
“People will spend an average of, you know, $120 to as high as $160, $165 a day,” said Pueblo Chamber President Rod Slyhoff.
The large amount of people coming to Pueblo is a good thing, according to Slyhoff.
“Anytime you get people from out of your basic economic area that are going to bring money with them and spend it here, that’s a revenue generator,” said Slyhoff.
Despite the money the event could bring to the city, the sheriff says his main concern is safety.
“I look at whether or not I can keep this community safe during a festival like this when I don’t have cooperation from the permitees,” said Pueblo Sheriff Kirk Taylor.
He is also concerned about the precedent set at past Cannabis Cup events.
“There was no effort by the promoter of that event up in Adams County, or the onsite security to address any of these concerns,” said Taylor.
But Slyhoff says the marijuana industry is already booming in the county and this event could result in a big payoff.
Event organizers haven’t submitted a full application to the county. Adams County denied the event last week.
