15-year-old arrested for making threat against Ellicott Schools

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office confirms a 15-year-old boy was arrested for making a threat against Ellicott Schools that shut down District 22 for a day.

Spokeswoman Jacqueline Kirby said the threat warned students not to go to school on Monday and included three revolver emoticons in the message. It was posted on the social media app “After School.”

They were able to track the message to the teen through cooperation with the founder of the app as well as witness statements.

The District canceled classes in response to the threat.

The teen was taken to the Spring Creek Youth Center on suspicion of attempting to influence a public official and interference with staff and students of an educational institution.

Kirby said they believe the teen acted alone.
