Man dies after being hit by car while crossing Colorado Springs street

Colorado Springs Police say a man was crossing the street illegally when he was hit by a car.

The incident happened in the 1800 block of S. Nevada Avenue at around 7:50 p.m. on February 19, 2016.

The pedestrian, identified as Norberto Mercado, 65, was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Police said they suspect Mercado had been drinking. The driver who hit him is not facing any charges.
