Man accidentally shoots brother, faces charges

A man is under arrest, his brother recovering in the hospital after an accidental shooting in Colorado Springs.

It happened just after 9:00 p.m. Monday on the 5400 block of N. Nevada ave.

Colorado Springs police say the two brothers were cleaning their guns when one of them went off. When police got to the scene, they found four people in the apartment had been consuming alcohol.

The man was shot in the arm and taken to the hospital. He’s being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the man who fired the gun on accident is Matthew Spurling. He’s being held at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center and is facing charges of second degree assault.

There were no other injuries in the incident.
