Teller County road crews getting ready for the storm

The snow started early Monday afternoon in Woodland Park but during the early part of the storm the roads mainly stayed wet.

Plow drivers here are used to dealing with snow in the mountain areas.

Monday afternoon, crews made sure the plow trucks were in working order and a plan to use them was in place.

The county roads are broken down into three tiers with 18 trucks available to handle whatever snow falls.

Their biggest worry is refreezing because of how warm it was only a few days ago.

Brad Shaw, the road and bridge supervisor for Teller County said, “It will be very slick on the hard surface roads because they’ll be wet and then they’ll freeze and the snow on top of them will be very slick.”

If half a foot or more falls in the county, Shaw says that would warrant a full call out.
