I-70 re-opens at night but daytime work continues

Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon is shut down again for rock removal but is expected to reopen to traffic at night for the next several days.

Vehicles were able to travel through the canyon escorted by pilot cars Sunday night through Monday morning for the first time following last week’s rockslide.

The highway is scheduled to be back open between 4 p.m. through Tuesday at 9 a.m. Delays of up to an hour are expected.

A 24-mile stretch of the highway between Glenwood Springs and Gypsum was shut down Feb. 15 after rocks tumbled onto the road. A boulder the size of a small car crashed into a truck but no one was injured.
