Galaxyfest lands in Colorado Springs for fifth year

Aliens, creatures and super heroes are among those invading the Antlers Hotel in downtown Colorado Springs this weekend.

They’re part of the fifth annual Galaxyfest science fiction convention.

Organizers said the event attracts fans, cosplayers, independent film artists and gamers from across Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico, plus vendors, artists and authors from across the country.

Co-owner Brian Swanson said he expected a record 6,000 people to register for Galaxyfest, which is a threefold increase. But he doesn’t want the convention to get too big.

“Our goal is to not to get up to a Denver Comic Con size of 108,000,” he said. “It’s really tough to handle that down here without a major convention center of its own.”

The event started Friday and continues through Sunday. Swanson said Sunday is Kids’ Day.
