2016 Basketball Brackets Released
It took awhile, but Sunday CHSAA released basketball brackets for both the boys and girls in classes 5A and 4A.
In the 5A boys tournament Metro League champs Doherty earns a number two seed and a bye in the first round, but they’re in the same section of the bracket as defending champion Overland. They’ll face the winner of Lakewood and Grand Junction.
Earlier this week Doherty senior Dalven Brushier said the Spartans are ready to run the table in the 5A tournament.
“To bring that to Doherty in my senior year, with this group of guys, with this coaching staff, that would mean the world to me,” said Brushier. “That’s ultimately what I would like to do, but I can’t do it alone. I need my team, we’re going to do that and try to bring that to Doherty as a group.”
Also in Doherty’s section of the bracket is number eight Liberty, who will host Westminster in the first round.
Elsewhere, Rampart earns a five seed – they’ll take on 12 seed Loveland – and the Palmer Terrors are a seven seed – they’ll face 10 seed Ralston Valley.
On the girls side, Doherty and Pine Creek both earn three seeds and will get byes in the first round. Doherty could face either Rocky Mountain or Columbine, while Pine Creek will see either Cherokee Trail or Gateway.
Rampart also will get a bye as a four seed; they’ll play the winner of Regis Jesuit and Westminster. Liberty earns a seven seed; they’ll host Prairie View in the first round. Also, eight seed Palmer will take on Rock Canyon.
Heading to class to 4A, Lewis-Palmer is your number one overall seed for the boys tournament. The Rangers lost only one game all year, they’ll host Steamboat Springs on February 26th at 5:00 p.m. MT.
In the same section of the bracket, Vista Ridge is the number three seed facing number six Pueblo Central.
Pueblo West is a number one seed as well, they’ll face Mesa Ridge in the first round. Both Pueblo South and Sierra earn two seeds – they’ll face Widefield and Wheat Ridge respectively.
The Sand Creek Scorpions come in as a four seed, they’ll host D’Evelyn on February 26th at 3:30 p.m. MT. Finally, Mitchell will head on the road as a seven seed to take on two seed Denver South.
To the girls – and of course Sand Creek and Mesa Ridge earn number one seeds. Both the Scorpions (vs. Standley Lake) and Grizzlies (vs. Kennedy) have only lost one game all year; however, they won’t see each other in the tournament unless it’s in the championship game.
Pueblo East is the number two seed in Sand Creek’s bracket, they’ll take on the number seven seed Falcon. Vista Ridge earns a five seed as well, they’ll take on Centaurus.
Pueblo South (vs. Vista PEAK Prep) earns a three seed, and Air Academy (vs. Durango) – Sierra (vs. Berthoud) – and Pueblo West (vs. D’Evelyn) are all five seeds. Widefield also makes the tournament as an eight seed, they’ll face Longmont.
