Prevention keeps tree damage to a minimum
When you mix high winds with older trees near houses, it can be a recipe for disaster.
But, one Southern Colorado community has been proactive about keeping that from happening.
In Caon City Thursday, at least four trees were reported down from the nasty winds that blew through.
However, the preventative maintenance that the city has done, kept the situation from being much worse.
We spoke with Jason Sharp of Front Range Arborists, who was working to remove a tree from Willie Almazan’s front yard on Friday, and he praised the city’s efforts.
“The city of Caon City has actually done a really good job of keeping up as far as the maintenance of their trees, as far as trimming and removing, so it’s not really a surprise to me to see this few of trees come over with the maintenance that they’ve done down here,” he said.
Sharp told us that trees such as ashes and elms have deeper, more stable root systems and withstand wind better, but trees like spruce and older oaks are more vulnerable to breakage and potential damage.
