COS homeowners learn more about landslide reimbursement

Homeowners in Colorado Springs affected by landslides are hearing about possible financial relief.

At the second of two community meetings this week, the city explained the process of how some homeowners could be reimbursed for property damage.

Some who live in the Broadmoor Bluffs, Rockrimmon and Skyway neighborhoods have damaged or condemned homes.

Thursday night, affected homeowners learned how to apply for help from FEMA. It’s a relief for many who felt nothing could be done.

“Before we just felt like if we, if a house started to slide, we were SOL.”

Standard Homeowners Insurance doesn’t cover landslides. FEMA could reimburse homeowners for up to 75 percent of the damage. The application deadline is Mar. 4.
