Workers say luxury Vail resort allowed sexual harassment

Two of eight Mexican workers at a luxury resort in Vail are speaking out about the allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination that led to a $1 million settlement of their civil rights lawsuit.

Maribel Soto and Maribel Luisa Baltazar Benitez spoke to reporters Tuesday after reaching the settlement with Vail Run Resort and its management company. The company in the wealthy ski resort town also agreed to hire a bilingual monitor for five years to ensure the settlement is enforced.

Attorneys for Vail Run Resort did not immediately return calls for comment.

The women say a manager sexually harassed them for more than a year, in one case attacking a housekeeper cleaning a room in the 54-unit timeshare. They say the resort allowed the abuse, threatening to fire or deport workers who complained.
