Report reveals Colorado spends millions arresting homeless

A new study shows Colorado cities are spending millions of dollars arresting and prosecuting the homeless.

A report by the University of Denver reveals six cities, including Colorado Springs, spent a combined $5 million arresting the homeless. The study was conducted from 2010 to 2014.

The costs range from violating an ordinance to committing a crime. Denver’s enforcement costs were the highest in the state.

We contacted the city to see exactly how much money Colorado Springs has spent. Officials said it is difficult to estimate.
