Discussion on future of Supreme Court begins
While many mourn the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, they’re also thinking about what’s ahead for the U.S. Supreme Court.
79-year-old Scalia died Saturday. He was the longest-serving justice on the current Supreme Court.
“It’s always sad news when one of the justices passes away. he’s been a leading light on the conservative light for many years, and I’m sure they will miss him both on the court and in Washington,” retired political science professor Bob Loevy said.
President Barack Obama will nominate Scalia’s successor, but Loevy said it won’t be a smooth ride with a Republican-controlled Senate.
“I expect to see a real battle, with a real possibility of no appointment until after the next election and the next president takes office,” Loevy said.
