Slick Streets Keep Drivers, Police Busy in Monday Storm

it snows in colorado springs … the secondary roads can be tricky to navigate. but today, no roads are safe, especially when hills were involved. krdo newschannel 13’s scott harrison is live on south 8th street. scott, with the continuous snow, even plowed roads are a problem. anyone who’s driven on the motor city hill in winter, knows how treacherous it can be. but today, it wasn’t just big hills that were troublesome. little hills were sluppery, too. nadine doughty has a four-wheel drive jeep cherokee. but those wheels went nowhere when she tried to get over the 8th street hill. “i was coming down the hill, and my jeep doesn’t have the best traction. so obviously, i spun and came to a stop over here, but i can’t get back up the hill.” doughty waited for a relative to come help her, but when the relative got stuck elsewhere… she backed up and tried to get herself unstuck. it didn’t work. “local road crews say they ran into two issues today. one, is the heavier snow came in the afternoon and covered up all the plowing progress they made. and this isn’t like usual storms where certain pockets of the area get heavier snow. crews say there was an even distribution of heavy snow all over the place.” some of the smaller hills were just as bad. lots of spinning and sliding on tejon and nevada, just south of downtown. that meant temporary detours. “one car starts getting stuck, then 2 or 3 cars start getting stuck. so i decided it’s better to start closing this down until we get streets out here to clean this up before we get accidents.” and it’s likely to get worse before it gets better. city supervisors ask that you be patient and give plow drivers the time–and space–they need to clear streets and roads as soon as possible. live in the springs–scott harrison, krdo newschannel 13. good to see them staying safe in the home of heroes.. but there’s one spot that rarely gets a pass when it comes to
