Orange fever spreads through southern Colorado
Nearly everywhere, there is orange and blue in Colorado Springs.
Stores opened early to sell championship apparel, bars held giveaways during the big game and flags were flying on cars.
“We got our shirts already this morning. We are die hard Broncos fans,” said Pam Hillis. “Oh, my gosh. Was that the most exciting game?”
Fans, like Hillis, plan to head to Denver on Tuesday. She put flags and decals on her car Monday to prepare for the big trip.
“When we go to the parade, we’ll represent Colorado Springs,” she said.
The Broncos haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1998, which means a whole new generation have witnessed the Orange Crush win the big game.
“The last Super Bowl, I was only 2 years old. So, it’s nice to be one that I’m actually going to remember,” said Cody Costra. “To say that I was alive for the 50th anniversary is pretty incredible.”
From shirts on store shelves to sculptures in the snow, Broncos pride is on display across the region.
“I knew we were going to the championship. I had a big mountain of snow. I’m a big Bronco fan. I just like the Broncos,” said Tim Roby, who spent two hours Sunday building a bronco figure out of a giant mountain of snow. “It’s just exhilarating, you know?”
Many fans told KRDO NewsChannel 13 they planned to go to Denver for the parade on Tuesday, knowing they’d have to leave early to beat the crowds and catch a glimpse of the players in person.
