Police across Colorado prepare for possible post-game riots

Police in Denver and Colorado Springs say win or lose, they are prepared should fans get out-of-control in the wake of the Super Bowl.

Officers in both cities are prepared for big crowds, and urging fans not to get out of hand after the game.

In 1998, the year the Broncos beat the Packers in Super Bowl Thirty-Two, Denver fans overturned cars, broke windows, set bonfires, and even climbed onto the light rail lines crossing over Larimer Square.

Commander Rick Kyle of the Denver P.D. says that while he doesn’t understand the behavior, he certainly expects it from some fans, “Certain people use that as an excuse to act out… I believe in celebrating responsibly. Having a good time but respecting other people’s property”

While trying to prevent a repeat, police in Denver rolled out a new public awareness slogan this year: Be a Bronco, don’t be a donkey.
