Snow tire sales soar
Many Colorado drivers have decided that slipping and sliding is just too scary and have decided to upgrade to snow tires in the wake of this week’s snow and subsequent road conditions.
Business was brisk today at H and H tires in Colorado Springs. Employee David Babcock says winter tires can make a big difference.
“Snow tires flex at lower temperatures, so that allows you to have more biting edges, and with an all-season tire they actually stop flexing at 45 degrees and above. So at 45 degrees and below, the snow tire gives you the advantage,” he explained.
Tracey Putz of Colorado Springs says her buying decision today was based on weather.
“Because mainly of the storm. We had a little slide-out on the way to church last Sunday and decided we should have them looked at,” she said.
According to Tirebuyer.com, the best strategy is to have two sets of tires, one for winter and one for summer. Easter and Halloween are the “rule of thumb” times of year for changing them over.
