Carson, supporters vow to fight on despite rumors of ending bid
After a disappointing fourth-place finish in Iowa, rumors swirled Dr. Ben Carson would hang up his bid for president.
Ardent supporter and donor, Greg Asia of Colorado Springs still believes in Carson’s chances.
“He has passion for the country,” Asia said. “He wants to see things changed, he’s a man of conviction, he’s not going to bow at the first storm that comes his way.”
On Monday right before the Iowa Caucuses, CNN reported Carson was heading home to Florida instead of going straight to New Hampshire.
Sen. Ted Cruz staffers seized on that and reportedly told caucus-goers Carson was dropping out of the race and they needed to switch their vote.
Carson calls those claims lies.
“I’m not going anywhere,” Carson told a group of supporters.
Cruz apologized to Carson for spreading the rumor.
KRDO political analyst, Josh Dunn believes as the campaign went on, Carson’s weaknesses were exposed especially in the area of foreign policy.
“Even if you are a bright and capable person as Ben Carson is, there are inevitably going to be things about your candidacy that other people will pick up on and they’ll illustrate the fact that you aren’t quite as prepared for this contest as other people are,” Dunn said
Asia contends it’s too early to count Carson out.
“This is a long marathon event, we’ve only had one caucus so far,” Asia said. “I wouldn’t say he’s faltering.”
A New Hampshire poll out Wednesday shows Donald Trump leading Jeb Bush by 17 points. Carson is in single digits with 3 percent.
The first-in-the-nation primary is Tuesday.
