Sheriff’s office: Speeds reach 115 mph in Pueblo County pursuit

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office says two of its vehicles were damaged during a pursuit Friday.

This all began with a report of a black Nissan SUV with Tennessee plates driving recklessly in the 8000 block of Grand Avenue in Beulah. That report was followed by a report of the same vehicle being involved in a gas drive-off at the Beulah General Store. The vehicle had been reported stolen, according to the sheriff’s office.

Law enforcement officers around the region were asked to keep a lookout for the vehicle.

It was spotted outside of a pawn shop on Northern Avenue in Pueblo.

The sheriff’s office says that when deputies tried to contact the people in the SUV, the driver backed into a deputy’s patrol vehicle and then drove away. Law enforcement chased the SUV north on Pueblo Boulevard, but lost sight of it in traffic.

An off-duty Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office detective later spotted the SUV on Pueblo Boulevard. Deputies caught up with the vehicle as it was eastbound on Dillon Drive. Detectives once again tried to stop the SUV, and once again the driver crashed into one of their vehicles and then drove away.

Deputies, Pueblo Police and troopers began chasing the SUV westbound on Highway 50. The chase was called off because of safety concerns. The sheriff’s office says the driver of the SUV reached speeds of up to 115 mph.

The SUV was later pulled over on Highway 50 west of Caon City. The driver, identified as David Teagle, 31, was arrested. Two other people in the SUV were detained for questioning.

The sheriff’s office says it has reason to believe the trio may be persons of interest in recent criminal activity in the Beulah area. Call 719-583-6250 if you have any information.
