Flag that flew over US capitol, ground zero gifted to UCCS in honor of fallen police officer

Members of a fraternity at UCCS presented the university with a special flag in memory of Officer Garrett Swasey Friday.

Swasey was shot and killed on Black Friday while responding to the Planned Parenthood shooting.

UCCS Police Chief Brian McPike accepted the flag on behalf of Swasey. “It’s just a fitting memorial to officer Swasey’s bravery and courage. He didn’t have to go out of his jurisdiction to help those in need but he did. And, unfortunately he paid with his life but he helped keep people safe,” McPike said.

The same flag was previously flown at the US capitol, ground zero in New York, and at the funerals of state troopers Taylor Thyfault and Jamie Jursevics.

Congressman Doug Lamborn was also on hand for the presentation.
