Pine Creek responds to CHSAA sanctions

Pine Creek’s Athletic Director Matt Mahan’s Statement Regarding CHSAA Sanctions

Pine Creek High School takes very seriously the integrity of our athletic programs, and we are dedicated to ensuring that our student athletes’ post-season play will not be affected by the current restriction status related to recruiting violations. CHSAA has strict bylaws regarding overt or implied recruiting of athletes by coaches, volunteer coaches, and parent volunteers, and Pine Creek is committed to following these regulations.

As a school, we are making the programmatic changes necessary to ensure that violations do not occur again. Pine Creek has taken appropriate and swift action regarding the violations. Matt Mahan, Athletic Director, and I (Kolette Back, Principal) have had many conversations with CHSAA leadership and met with them personally last week to present an initial plan to demonstrate fidelity to immediate and corrective action. We anticipate that our swift and thorough response will convince CHSAA that we are indeed taking appropriate actions that will keep us within the association’s regulations. The CHSAA commissioner or board has the right to permit teams to participate in post-season play if the school complies with bylaws and expectations. Pine Creek and CHSAA are both committed to restoring athletes’ ability to compete in post-season play.

Coaches will be holding meetings with parents and athletes on or before February 5 th to address concerns and answer questions.

Our students remain our primary focus, and we are committed to their success.
