Crews Battle Grass Fire in Falcon

A grass fire in the 7000 block of Rio Road in Falcon burned approximately 2.3 acres Saturday morning.

A nearby home was threatened briefly, but crews had the flames under control quickly.

The cause of the fire has been determined as being due to sparks from a metal grinder.

Falcon Fire Department and members of the Colorado Springs Utilities Catamount Wildland Fire Team responded to the fire. The Catamount crew was training with Falcon firefighters, and got a little unexpected real-time experience.

Firefighters want to remind our viewers that even though there is still snow on the ground in some areas, tall grasses and light fuels are very dry and will easily ignite. Pleasebe mindful of the increased fire danger anduse caution in outdoor activities.
