UPDATE: Pikes Peak Elementary placed on lockout, parents respond to recent school threats
Pikes Peak Elementary in Harrison School District 2 was placed on lockout status Friday morning.
Lockout generally means that classes continue as normal inside the school, but no one is allowed in or out.
Harrison School District 2 says a Safe2Tell tip prompted the lockout.
“I was kind of shocked. I didn’t know anything about it,” said Christina France, parent. She learned about the threat while trying to pick up her son.
“He means everything to me. I’m a single parent, so he’s everything that I have. Everything,” France added.
The district says the tip was vague and unclear, but it takes every tip seriously.
D-2 security and the Colorado Springs Police Department are investigating.
The threat is one of two in the last 24 hours.
The other happened on Thursday at Doherty High School.
Police say the a student sent a photo out via a popular phone app called Snapchat. The message read: “Don’t come to school tomorrow” and showed a picture of a gun.
The student who sent the photo was suspended.
