Pueblo police lose two from academy

The Pueblo Police Department is still understaffed and gang activity is increasing and two people who were supposed to become Pueblo officers dropped out of the police academy.

A group of 13 officers graduated from the police academy in December and two dropped out.

Pueblo police were counting on them to help staff the department.

Pueblo police have not increased the number of officers in more than 40 years. Deputy Chief Troy Davenport says the two dropouts are a concern when it comes to staffing.

“Until you’re the one making decisions and you’re the one in the hot spot you really can’t appreciate the feel of that and what that’s like,” said Davenport.

Another round of training at the police academy starts in February.
