Pueblo bridge hit three times in a year

It’s a bridge that could be called a target. The Highway 50 bypass bridge in Pueblo has been hit three times in the past year.

“It always seems to be kind of an accident,” said Chuck Decker, a maintenance supervisor for CDOT.

On Wednesday night, the bridge was hit by a semi, but it only caused cosmetic damage. CDOT said it’s safe, but that a bigger hit could be a much worse problem.

“If somebody would go that was way over height, you hit those girders and damage the structure,” said Decker.

The plan is to widen the interstate in that area, but until CDOT gets the funding, if the bridge gets hit again, it cannot be replaced.
