Arson suspected in west Springs grass fire

The Colorado Springs Fire Department says it suspects arson in a grass fire that threatened structures at W. Uintah Street and N. 19th Street Wednesday morning.

No suspect information is available.

The fire department said gusty winds fueled the flames.

The fire is now 100% contained. It burned 1.1 acres. No buildings were damaged.

19th Street was closed from Glenn Street northward as was Columbine Avenue at Glenn Street.

Captain Steve Oswald with the Colorado Springs Fire Department said no official evacuations were ordered, however, a nearby preschool made the decision to evacuate as a precaution.
