Going off trail in the heart of Colorado Springs

Soon, people hitting the Front Range Trail north of downtown Colorado Springs will have a new option.

A new off-trail track is being constructed by a group of urban bikers in conjunction with the city.

The single-track trail is just north of “Goose” Gossage Park, near the dirt track and skate park.

It mirrors another project near the Drake Power Plant on the south side of the city.

It offers another option for people who use the Pikes Peak Greenway.

“They can be riding on the concrete path on the Pikes Peak Greenway, take a side spur and jump on this trail and spend a couple of minutes or spend a little more time doing loops around there,” said David Deitermeyer of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services.

The off-trail track is expected to be done in the next couple of months.

Similar plans are in the works for other trails in the city system.
