Hundreds celebrate MLK Day at annual breakfast
Hundreds gathered at Colorado College Monday to honor the life of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The annual All People’s Breakfast was held Monday. Organizers, say it’s a tradition “in which citizens honor King’s legacy by coming together to eat and reflect on important civil and human rights issues of the day.”
Keynote speaker Gwen Brown gave a presentation called, “Activism – Engagement – Empowerment: A Call for Action.”
Attendees heard speakers and listened to the New Direction Baptist Church Brotherhood Choir. They said they hope the day’s spirit of service extends beyond the holiday.
“Dr. King was about diversity, inclusion, he was about respect, he was about dignity. and we all have to hold that in our hearts every day, not just on MLK day, but in the way we treat each other every day,” Colorado College Associate Dean of Students Rochelle Mason said.
