Local man cited in ice bomb explosion
The sound of an explosion disturbed a quiet Sunday morning in a Colorado Springs neighborhood.
Police responded to the report around 11 a.m., under a bridge on Constitution Avenue just east of Academy Boulevard.
“I heard this loud bang,” said Frank Kinslow, a resident of the nearby Georgetown Square community. “I thought someone had run into the carport, so (I) went out and looked at that and didn’t see anything. And later when I was making breakfast, it happened again. Other neighbors said they saw smoke coming out from underneath the bridge and three people walking away.”
Police later determined that another community resident confessed to making the bomb and detonating it. He was cited for illegal use of fireworks.
The man made a dry ice bomb, police said, a device considered illegal and dangerous. No one was hurt and no major damage was done, police said.
