Pueblo hospital wants to fill lifesaving need

A Pueblo hospital says there is a job shortage nationwide for critical care nurses.

St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center said it wants to fill the need.

The hospital is starting a critical care training program.

It wants to train nurses to help save people facing life-threatening injuries and illnesses including gunshot wounds and heart attacks.

Rosanna Armstrong said being a critical care nurse is life-changing.

“You start on their worst day and you progress to their best day, most times you hope. Three days out of the week, you are with that patient for over 12 hours at a time,” she said.

The training lasts three months and is meant for nurses with previous experience.
