New members begin first night on council

There is a new era in Pueblo City Council.

Three new council members were sworn in Monday night.

Larry Atencio, Lori Winner and Ray Aguilera all had their first meeting tonight with the new council.

Chris Nicoll was sworn in for his second term.

We spoke with the new members about the issues they want to take care of for the year.

Larry Atencio said he wants to tackle all of the issues.

“Everything, we’re just going to work on everything and make everything positive from day one,” he said.

Both Ray Aguilera and Lori Winner want to handle more specific problems.

“The really tough issues that we need to face (are) public safety and our roads,” he said.

“I want to handle the issues of blight and the issues of crime and also some issues I have with the budget or what citizens have with the budget,” she said.

Steve Nawrocki was chosen as the council president for a second year.
