Colorado Springs fans celebrate David Bowie’s legacy

Fans across the world are mourning after a shocking loss to the entertainment industry.

Rock star, actor, and all-around icon David Bowie died Sunday night after a brave 18-month battle with cancer.

People in Colorado Springs are celebrating his life, inspired by the legacy he left behind.

One of those people is Earth Pig Music owner Tim Atherton.

“We moved here right in 1984, after the ‘Let’s Dance’ record came out. That was one of the first records I bought when I moved to Colorado,” said Atherton.

Atherton grew up listening to Bowie, and it’s since become a staple of his music business. Even before his death, they couldn’t keep Bowie’s records on the shelves.

“Popular, popular artist. always has been,” said Atherton.

It seemed to be the case at other record stores across town. Shoppers at Entertainmart also searched shelves in his honor.

“Ever since I was a kid, my father always played a little of the old music so I always grew up listening to it,” said Manfred Schoenfeld.

Schoenfeld is a musician himself, and says he used decades of Bowie’s music as a basis for his songs.

“It’s not only musicians that were inspired. It was also fashion designers, movies, game designers… They reference stuff in video games as well,” said Schoenfeld.

Atherton agrees, saying while Bowie entertained for decades, he will leave a mark for decades to come.

“Most things you listen to came from David Bowie or his world, so appreciate,” said Atherton.
