El Paso County deputy hurt in car crash

A deputy with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department is in the hospital after a serious car crash in Colorado Springs. The accident happened at the intersection of Academy and Palmer Park in Colorado Springs around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Colorado Springs police say the on-duty deputy was rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The accident involved the deputy’s squad car and a Jeep. Police say the deputy had the lights and sirens on at the time of the crash. The people inside the Jeep were mildly hurt. The crash is still under investigation. The intersection was closed for several hours during the investigation conducted by the Major Accident Unit. All lanes are now back open.
