Colorado AG investigates immigrant driver’s license program

Colorado Attorney General Cynthia Coffman is warning immigrants of scams involving the state’s driver’s license program for those living in the country illegally.

The Denver Post reports Coffman said in a statement Thursday the Division of Motor Vehicles has reported people purchasing and then selling appointments for the program at prices up to $1,000. Coffman says her office is working to determine whether the practice violates state law.

She has called on people involved in the activity to stop and cancel any appointments they’ve reserved.

The licenses for people living in the country illegally are available by appointment only at just three locations. There are only 90 slots available each day and wait times can stretch over several months.

Funding for the program has been stalled by partisan gridlock.
