Did North Korea’s test actually happen?

house is questioning reports of a hydrogen bomb test in north korea. it comes a day after north korea announced they had successfully tested that bo. krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller is live to explain why th test matters. it has to do with the science behind this claim. north korea has test fired nuclear bombs before – but never a hydrogen bomb. and the difference is in the magnitude. the announceme nt from north korea excitedly relayed. nats – lady announcing news while the u.s. government is skeptical.. 86we – the initial analysis that’s been conducted of the events that reported overnight is not consistent with what north korean claims of a successful hydrogen bomb test. if true, a hydrogen bomb is a huge change to past tests. simmons: the largest was a hydrogen bomb, many times larger than what we deployed over nagasaki. but it’s not as easy to build… according to andrew simmons is a linear physics teacher at vista ridge high school. a hydrogen bomb is different from an atom bomb. sot: it’s scaleable, you can scale it down. but when you start scaling it down, it becomes a more difficult to build. in atom bombs – a molecule is split, releasing the energy inside. a hydrogen bomb does the opposite, simmons: they’ve got to move fast eneough with the righ temperature and pressure to smash into each other. two molecules collide – also expelling more energy. greg: add to that the complexity of building it, that’s why skeptics are coming out saying they’re not convinced north korea is capable of it. sot: to continue to grab attention and gain credibility as a military threat. steve recca with uccs is skeptical this test actually happened. sot:it’s a major step, as a new threat, but rather it continues on the same line. and scientists agree- for people to run around scared, sometimes it’s sensational, but it’s with skepticism. until more proof is shown. another reason there’s skepticism- the magnitude of the earthquake. simmons says when the test happened – the energy expelled created an earthquake – but a small one for the claims of a hydrogen bomb test. reporting live, greg miller, krdo newschannel 13. world news tonight with
