First Springs baby born in 2016 at exactly midnight
A Colorado Springs family got bigger on Friday because of a rare birth.
Hannah and Micah Menges traded champagne and party hats on New Year’s Eve for bibs and baby clothes.
Their daughter, Cora Marie Menges, was born at exactly midnight at Memorial Hospital North in Colorado Springs. The hospital said she is one of the first babies to be born in Colorado.
“It’s awesome. It’s pretty incredible bringing a new life into the world. Just an incredible experience for all of us,” Micah Menges said.
The couple didn’t expect to have their baby daughter on New Year’s Day.
“The due date, technically, wasn’t for another five days, so nothing we asked for, but we will embrace it, obviously. It’s something special for us,” Micah said.
Memorial Hospital North said it is rare to have a birth at exactly midnight. The hospital also had a record year for baby deliveries at the hospital in 2015. Doctors delivered more than 1,800 babies.
As for Hannah and Micah Menges, they said it was a restless night, but they said they’re happy to have a daughter in their family.
