Frowning snowmen represent serious message

Drive through downtown Colorado Springs and people could notice a frowning snowwoman.

The reason she’s frowning? She got a DUI.

The figure represents NoDUIColorado.org, which was created to help reduce the number of drunk drivers in the state.

Organizers with Drive Smart Colorado tell KRDO NewsChannel 13 there were 2,371 DUI charges filed in El Paso County last year. In Pueblo County, 634 charges were filed.

“How much will a DUI really cost you? It’s about $10,000. I can think of a lot of better ways to spend $10,000 than defending a DUI,” said Maile Gray, executive director of Drive Smart Colorado.

They’re hoping when people see the snowmen or snowwomen, they’ll think twice or remember just how grave a DUI charge can be when filed.
