Two people from El Paso County killed in Douglas County crash
Colorado State Patrol says everyone involved in a deadly crash near Franktown Monday evening was from the Colorado Springs area.
The crash happened on Highway 83 about six miles south of Franktown at around 5:27 p.m. on December 21, 2015.
Franktown is located about eight miles east of Castle Rock.
Trooper Nate Reid with the Colorado State Patrol says a 2012 Audi S5 was northbound on Highway 83 and a 2003 Chevy Tahoe was southbound. He says the Audi crossed the center lane and the vehicles collided.
The driver of the Audi, Stephen Edwards of Peyton, died at the scene. Edwards, who was in his 70s, was the only person in the vehicle.
The driver of the Chevy, Jeffrey Lobato, 47, of Colorado Springs also died at the scene.
Lobato was a Freshman football coach at Doherty High School.
“He was just an amazing man loved his family and loved by his community. He loved his Spartans. He truly loved this school and community and will be dearly missed,” said Chris Noll, athletic director at Doherty High School.
The following three passengers were in Lobato’s vehicle:
Christine Lobato, 47, of Colorado Springs was taken to Parker Adventist Hospital with serious injuries.
Jaylin Lobato, 18, of Colorado Springs was taken to Parker Adventist Hospital with unknown injuries. An unidentified 15-year-old passenger was flown to Swedish Medical Center in Denver with serious injuries.
Investigators have not yet determined why Edwards crossed into oncoming traffic. Excessive speed is being investigated. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected.
